Lindsey Bean-Kampwerth, OTD, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist currently serving as the Director of Assistive Technology at Paraquad, a nonprofit organization established 47 years ago with the mission to empower people with disabilities to increase their independence through choice and opportunity. Lindsey graduated with a doctorate in occupational therapy in 2008 from Washington University in St. Louis and began working at Paraquad in 2009. Outside of Paraquad, she volunteers as co-manager for the local wheelchair rugby team, is married, and has two children and a dog. Aimee Wehmeier is the third President and CEO in Paraquad’s history. The agency, which is one of the first Centers for Independent Living (CIL) in the country, annually serves more than 3,000 people with all types of disabilities through 20 programs. Aimee joined Paraquad after serving in the same role at Services for Independent Living (SIL)—the Columbia, MO, equivalent of Paraquad—for seven years. She serves on the Missouri State Rehabilitation Council, the Missouri Foundation for Health Advisory Committee, Missouri Housing Trust Fund Advisory Committee, Fontbonne College of Education & Allied Health Professions Executive Advisory Board, MO Better Advisory Committee, Diversity Awareness Partnership Board, and the Regional Chamber of Commerce Board. A recipient of the 2010 Missouri Governor’s Council on Disabilities Inclusion Award and the 2015 St. Louis Business Journal Diverse Business Leaders’ Award, Aimee has been described as “the face of disability.” She has a passion for public policy, advocacy, and increasing opportunities for people with disabilities. Employment and economic self-sufficiency are her highest priorities. It was good to see two empowered women to lead this interview. They were able to talk about several stuff like their mission and efforts of Paraquad, including the heath and wellness center, things going on about the Bloom Cafe, and the role they within the organization. They are already experts in this field that's why I can assume that this is a price of cake for them. Despite that, I know that they are still exerting effort and time for their responsibilities on the organization. Hopefully, they will always have that desire to teach and serve the people and the organization!
