Growing up in Austrilia, Tara Whiteford, now a Registered Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist, always knew she would do something in health but could never put her finger on what the most suited role for her was. After much research, she found occupational therapy and recognized that it seemed like a good fit, and she enrolled after high school at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. After completing her studies, Tara moved to Rockhampton, Qld, for her first job working with children with autism. She has since had several other roles within Rockhampton, and she met her fiancé Tim along the way in her travels. Tara is passionate about sharing resources and “making it easy” for children and their families, and this is a key driver for the London-based organization she and Tim have founded called Look Hear Australia, a virtual library of allied health resources designed to assist families and professionals working with children with what she refers to as individual, additional, and complex needs. On this episode of On The air, Tara talks about her work in establishing a resource library for allied health professionals and families of children with educational and healthcare needs. She reveals about how Look Hear Australia was formed, how it got its name, and what the vision and mission of the organization is as well as how others can connect and share resources through the group.
